Hon. Konrad Mizzi at the helm as the Minister in charge of Energy and the Conservation of Water, Health and Public Private Initiatives

ENERGY IS ONE OF THE MAIN DRIVERS OF A STABLE ECONOMY

Since taking office in March 2013, the Ministry has laid out a roadmap with a clear mission statement i.e. ‘Achieving excellence in Energy and Water infrastructure for better competitiveness and quality of life’.

The highest priority was the upgrade of energy infrastructure, stability of energy prices and a robust, economically and environmentally sustainable electricity generation system. Rigorous planning and programme implementation, made possible by both private and public-private partnership investments in the electricity generation sector, will make the construction of gas infrastructure in Malta possible and provide financial stability to the local industry and economy as a whole.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr Ronald Mizzi, oversees the development of energy and water policy and projects entrusted to the Sustainable Energy and Water Conservation Unit. The Unit, headed by Ing. Godwin Sant, handles issues related to Malta’s energy and water policy development, projects and interactions with EU legislations.

Minister Konrad Mizzi is also responsible for the strategic management of the health sector and is currently implementing reforms that would place the National Health sector on a sound footing to provide better services for the community.

Moreover, the Ministry is overseeing a number of public-private initiatives which synergise the government and the private sector’s efforts in achieving a sustainable economic growth for the country.
