Key Projects of St Vincent and the Grenadines
Argyle airport
The government has invited bidders to tender for a public–private partnership for the construction of a new airport in Argyle on St Vincent, to compliment the existing air facilities at the main ET Joshua Airport and other smaller airports on the Grenadine Islands. SVG sees the growth of the tourism sector as a central plank in its plans to grow the economy and so would like to improve air access to the islands. Currently, the islands can only accept medium-sized jets, which means that only small airlines run direct services to the islands. Many international tourists arrive via air transfer on a small jet from another Caribbean island, usually Barbados, Puerto Rico or St Lucia.
Public-Private Partnerships
The government wants to transform the country into an exporting nation that will be self-sustainable and balanced in growth. As part of that, favourable conditions are being offered to businesses in order to attract foreign direct investment – this includes setting up public–private partnerships.
