Key Projects of Nauru

PPPs

Development of Nauru’s private sector has been highlighted on several occasions by the government and other commentators as key to raising the standard of living and attaining the country’s Millennium Development Goals.

To this effect, it was suggested that the country, which was in the process of formalising the Nauru Small Business Association (NBSA), use this as a step towards establishing a national public–private partnership in Nauru’s National Assessment Report of 2004. The formation of NBSA was expected to develop the country’s private sector into an organised body responsible for consulting with the government on key policy-making issues. At the time of writing the NBSA had yet to be fully formalised.

Further emphasis of the country’s commitment to private sector development came about in 2009 with the establishment a joint partnership for development between the Government of Australia and the Government of Nauru. The partnership highlights Australia’s commitment to assisting Nauru with developing both the public and private sectors, investing in economic infrastructure and improving access to quality health and education.
