Power

Britain’s gas and electricity markets were opened to competition in the 1980s and 1990s, with the formerly state-owned British Gas remaining a major player in the gas market. Other companies that are active in the market include E·ON and Scottish Power, both of which supply gas and electricity. The sector is regulated by the Office of the Gas and Electricity Markets.

Water

Water services in England and Wales were partly privatised in 1989, with some assets sold off. Water supply remains in the public sector in Scotland and Northern Ireland.v
